JOHOR BARU: The viral video clip showing the driver of a Singapore-registered car refusing to comply with the police is actually from September last year.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the 1.15-minute video clip resurfaced and has been making rounds on social media since it was posted on Twitter on Wednesday (Aug 2).
“We received a report about the video on Thursday (Aug 3), where the driver of the silver car apparently refused to cooperate with a traffic policeman, who told him to stop the vehicle for trying to cut queue along the lorry lane at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) customs, immigration and quarantine complex.
“The video is actually old footage from an incident that took place on Sept 23 last year at the Johor Causeway,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 3).
ACP Raub said police have blacklisted the vehicle’s registration number and efforts are ongoing to look for the vehicle owner.
He urged the public not to go overboard when commenting about the video clip to avoid twisting the truth and causing negative perceptions towards any parties.
In the video, the police were seen speaking to the driver of the vehicle but the car kept moving forwards.
The official had to block it by standing in front of the car.
