Police in Johor Baru have taken possession of nearly 900 pairs of shoes that bear a logo resembling the word “Allah” in Arabic, according to Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar. The shoes were seized during a statewide operation conducted on Sunday.

Comm Kumar stated that two police reports had been filed in Johor regarding the questionable logo, and during the operation, a total of 892 pairs of shoes linked to the issue were confiscated from 10 different outlets across the state to prevent any further sale of the items.

Speaking at a press conference at the Johor police headquarters on Monday, Comm Kumar urged the public to remain calm as authorities continue their investigation into the matter.

The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, reported that a total of 1,145 pairs of shoes were seized in Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Kedah. No arrests have been made in connection with this case.

Razarudin Husain mentioned that the police will collaborate with the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to evaluate whether the logo on the shoes was designed to resemble the shape of the shoe or if it was intended to depict the Arabic calligraphy for “Allah.”

By 7pm on Sunday, eight police reports had been filed concerning the logo on the shoes. The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to work with Jakim to address the issue.

Comm Kumar stressed the importance of keeping the public informed about the progress of the investigation in order to maintain peace and order in the community while ensuring that justice is served.

The confiscation of the shoes from the outlets was a preemptive measure to prevent any potential unrest or misinterpretation of the logo, as the matter is being thoroughly looked into by the authorities.

Authorities are taking the necessary steps to address the concerns raised by the public and are dedicated to resolving the issue in a fair and objective manner, with the cooperation of relevant agencies like Jakim.
