KUALA LUMPUR: The police at Bukit Aman have initiated a sedition investigation into two individuals regarding the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) issue. In a statement on Thursday (Jan 4), Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said they were also looking into the two for misusing networking facilities. “Two investigation papers have been opened in connection with the case. We are investigating it under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act,” he said. He advised the public not to make any speculations that could disrupt investigations. “We also wish to remind the public to be considerate on sensitive issues which are connected to public order and national security,” he added. However, he did not identify the two individuals in question. It was reported earlier that various parties had criticized Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham for his proposal to include non-Muslim constitutional experts in the special committee to review syariah law in the country. On Sunday (Dec 31), Ngeh apologized and retracted his earlier statement. He was reported as saying it was not his intention to interfere in the management of Islamic affairs and that he had initially thought the government was seeking proposals to amend the Federal Constitution.
