Police in Malaysia have issued a total of 8,718 summonses for speeding violations in a recent operation that began on August 21. These summonses were issued through a rapid-fire (postal summons) operation, with the highest number of 8,352 summonses issued to motorists who were caught speeding. Motorcyclists received 44 summonses, while commercial and service vehicles received 322 summonses.
The Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) deputy director, Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar, explained that a K170A summons notification for speeding is being delivered to vehicle owners by registered post, rather than issuing tickets directly to the driver on the spot. He also added that all postal summonses for speeding offences can be settled at any police district traffic offices in the country.
Mohd Nasri stated that the operation, known as “Op Saman Ekor,” is being carried out to remind all road users to abide by the rules and regulations in the country. To ensure effective enforcement, high-speed cameras are being used by JSPT to record drivers who violate the speed limits. Once recorded, a K170A notice will be posted to the alleged offender.
In Malaysia, driving above the set speed limit is one of the main causes of road accidents, as speeding drivers often fail to maintain control of their vehicles.
