Pahang police have taken a statement from Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor regarding two police reports that were filed against him during the recent Pelangai state by-election campaign. The statement was recorded at the Manchis police station in Bentong on Oct 7. Pahang Police Chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman confirmed that they had recorded statements from five individuals and that the investigation is ongoing. The matter will be referred to the office of the Deputy Public Prosecutor. Yahaya added that the investigation of Muhammad Sanusi is being conducted in accordance with the Sedition Act 1948, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Election Offences Act 1954. The police reports were made regarding statements made by Muhammad Sanusi during a talk he gave on Sept 22 as part of the Pelangai by-election campaign.
In another development, it was revealed through a post-mortem that Nandan Suresh Nadkarni, a 44-year-old Indian national who was found dead after climbing Gunung Jasar in the Cameron Highlands, had suffered hypothermia. The post-mortem was conducted in an Ipoh hospital on Oct 1, and the body was subsequently handed over to the next-of-kin by the Perak police. Nandan Suresh, an actuary, went missing on Sept 22 after venturing alone to climb Gunung Jasar. It is believed that he deviated from the original trail during his descent, straying beyond the Perak border into Pahang. His body was discovered on Sept 30 in a river approximately six kilometers away from a control post at the mountain’s base, and it was brought down via helicopter on Oct 1. He had been staying at a guesthouse in Tanah Rata since Sept 19 and was scheduled to check out on Sept 24. CCTV footage showed him leaving the hotel on Sept 22. – Bernama
