KOTA DAMANSARA: Police are searching for a man who allegedly took upskirt photos of an insurance agent at a mall in Kota Damansara. The incident occurred on Tuesday (Aug 1) at around 11:47am.
The victim, Lee San Sien, 35, was on her way to a specialist medical center when she parked her car at the mall’s basement car park. She took the escalator to collect a medical report when she felt a slight touch on her right calf. Immediately turning around, she caught sight of a man withdrawing his phone from under her dress.
In a state of shock, Lee screamed at the man who denied any wrongdoing and fled the scene. She quickly managed to take a photo of the man while chasing him and sought assistance from a security guard. Together, they went to the mall’s management office where Lee requested to review the CCTV footage. After waiting for about one and a half hours, she was informed that the incident had been captured on CCTV.
Wanting more evidence, Lee asked if it was possible to obtain footage from the car park itself to identify the man’s vehicle. However, she was informed that the car park was managed by a different company and they were uncooperative.
Frustrated by the lack of cooperation, Lee decided to file a report at the Kota Damansara police station. She hopes that by bringing attention to this incident, the culprit can be apprehended and the parking management will be more cooperative in aiding the police investigation.
Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid, the Officer-in-Charge of the Petaling Jaya Police District, confirmed the report and stated that an investigation has been initiated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which covers acts that insult the modesty of a woman.
