Police officials in Kuala Lumpur are set to summon representatives from KK Super Mart and various individuals to aid in the investigation of the recent sale of socks featuring the word “Allah.” According to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, these individuals will be called to provide their statements sometime within the week. The investigation is being carried out under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

A total of 42 police reports have been filed in connection with the case, as confirmed by Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain. He mentioned that two investigation papers have been initiated regarding the matter. The case falls under Section 298A of the Penal Code, which pertains to causing disharmony based on religion, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily emphasized the importance of refraining from speculating on the case while it is still under investigation. He also urged the public to be mindful of sensitive issues that could impact national security. Despite the public apology offered by the convenience store chain for inadvertently selling the socks, the police probe will proceed, according to Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

Shamsul Anuar stated that the investigation will encompass the distributor and vendors involved in the incident, potentially facing penalties of up to RM20,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years, or both. He assured Parliament that the police and ministry are vigilant in preventing such incidents from recurring. Following a thorough inspection of KK Super Mart outlets nationwide, all the socks have been removed.
