Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee has confirmed that he will be giving his statement to the police in relation to an investigation into his interpretation of a viral Quranic verse. The police contacted him and he will provide his statement on Tuesday, September 26. Lee did not provide any further details regarding the investigation.
Media outlets have reported that the Perak police have handed over the investigation to the Federal police. The video in question, which has since been deleted, led to a police report being lodged against Lee at the Jalan Tun Razak police station in Kuala Lumpur. The Perak police chief, Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, stated on Friday, September 22 that the criminal investigation Department of Bukit Aman would conduct the investigation.
Furthermore, a non-governmental organization (NGO) named Jalinan Bersatu Sahabat (Jabat) Perak also lodged a police report in Perak on September 21.
