Police in George Town have uncovered an illegal heroin processing lab and seized drugs worth RM200,000 in simultaneous raids in Seberang Prai. State police chief Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin announced at a press conference that the raids led to the discovery of the lab at a house in Simpang Empat, South Seberang Prai. Another house in Central Seberang Prai was also raided, resulting in the arrest of three suspects. The seized drugs included 13,500g of heroin worth RM184,800, 230 sticks of cigarettes laced with mushroom drugs weighing 244g worth RM13,800, and 4,230g of caffeine worth RM1,400. In addition to the drugs, police also seized drug processing equipment and precursor substances. They also confiscated six cars and various items of jewelry worth RM690,680, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM890,680.
Comm Khaw stated that the urine tests of the suspects were positive, and two of them have previous criminal and drug-related records. The three suspects include a businessman, a workshop operator, and a lorry driver. All three have been remanded for seven days to aid in the ongoing investigation. The case is being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
