In spite of securing only 15 votes in his previous attempt, 72-year-old Bujang Abu is undeterred in his decision to challenge caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun for the Sikamat seat once more. A former Tenaga Nasional Bhd technician, Bujang expressed his excitement to compete against the state Pakatan Harapan chief, who is aiming for his fourth term in office. “As an individual who believes in the Almighty, I am hereby offering myself again. Being in the same ring as the MB is something that I relish,” he stated after submitting his nomination papers at the Coral Height community hall.
Having previously contested for the Seremban parliamentary seat in 2013, where he received only 83 votes, Bujang stated his motivations for running once more, “I am contesting as I have a lot of free time and I wish to serve. As someone who had worked in a utility company before, I know many people in the government departments and agencies and I can help the constituents if elected.”
Bujang also revealed that he would be using the image of spectacles as his logo throughout his campaign. When asked about the possibility of another defeat and losing his deposit, Bujang confidently responded, “I passed my Form Three examination on the eighth attempt. So, do I look as if I am afraid of failure?,” emphasizing that there have been candidates who have failed more times than him.
To address concerns about financing his campaign, Bujang explained, “Money is not a concern for me. If I live long enough, I will make another attempt in the next election,” assuring that he has savings from his pension to support his candidacy.
