The Orang Asli community at Pos Bihai in Gua Musang claims that tigers are still present in their settlement area, as they have been since their first sighting in June.
One resident of Kampung Tendrik Apek Asud, 39, recently found several tiger footprints near villagers’ houses on August 25.
“Almost every night, the tigers roam around our village. The next morning, we find footprints in our house compound, and a dog was killed after being attacked,” the resident said.
Due to fear, the tribe people of Temiar in the settlement are hesitant to leave their houses for everyday activities.
“The tigers have been spotted roaming around for the past three months, and footprints have been detected in Kampung Tendrik, Kampung Sau, Kampung Hak, Kampung Badak, and Kampung Bihai Lama since June,” the resident added.
The village chief, Tendrik Alang Segan, 50, said they have filed a complaint with the Department of Wildlife Protection and National Parks (Perhilitan).
“Perhilitan has already inspected our village area. We hope the tigers can be captured and relocated,” he said.
Meanwhile, Galas assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim urged Perhilitan to take immediate action as the residents are now afraid to go out for work.
“The tiger population in this area is quite high, and lately, sightings have increased. This could be due to their habitats being degraded and destroyed,” he explained.
Hashim also called on all parties involved to take measures to resolve the conflict between humans and wildlife.
