KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity (SESB) has stated that the power rationing in Sabah and Labuan is unlikely to occur on Monday (Jan 22).
Adrian Mosigil, managing director of the State Grid System Operator (GSO), mentioned that they are on alert and prepared for a possible over-demand for power.
He also indicated the overall electricity supply to be around 1,128MW, with 18.3MW coming from solar energy supplied by independent power producer Tadau Energy. The solar energy has the capacity to produce 50MW, depending on the weather and solar energy availability.
“The peak hour today is expected to be around 2.30pm, with a maximum demand anticipated to reach 1,027MW. SESB still has a reserve margin of 101MW in case of an emergency, so power rationing is not anticipated,” Mosigil explained.
He further stated that on Sunday (Jan 21), the peak hour was at 7.30pm, with the maximum demand hitting 957MW and a reserved margin of 156.79MW unutilised.
On Jan 17, GSO, a department of SESB tasked with handling Sabah’s grid system, announced that the company is unable to operate at full capacity due to repair works and safety inspection.
