Electricity supply in Sabah and Labuan is set to return to normal starting from Sunday (Oct 8), as the Rugading independent power plant (IPP) has resumed full operation. Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) senior general manager for asset management, Idris Mohd Noor, expressed his gratitude towards the IPP Rugading plant management team for their efforts in repairing the plant after it was shut down on Sept 8 for technical repairs. As a result of the closure, the Sabah Grid experienced a decline in electricity generation, leading to the implementation of scheduled load shedding by SESB. This was done to stabilize the state grid and prevent a major disruption to the overall electricity supply to both Sabah and Labuan. The average peak hour electricity demand for the two regions adds up to around 970 to 1,000 megawatts (MW), according to Idris.
