KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, the Chief Minister of Sabah, urged community development leaders (PPMs) to prioritize delivering excellent service to their constituents rather than acting according to their own whims. He emphasized the vital roles and immense responsibilities that these leaders hold within the community during the oath-taking ceremony of 14 new PPMs at Menara Kinabalu on July 26.
Hajiji emphasized that the appointment as a PPM is not a privilege, but a responsibility that must be discharged diligently. He encouraged the PPMs to work closely with their elected representatives in serving the constituents and stressed the importance of not acting based on personal preferences.
The main function of the PPM is to provide clear information about the government’s policies, especially the development plans implemented in the past two and a half years, to the grassroots. “PPMs must explain to the people the government development plans, especially the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (development plan),” said Hajiji.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the need for collective efforts to combat poverty in Sabah. With approximately two more years remaining until the current state government’s term expires, Hajiji urged the PPMs to serve the people and help their respective elected representatives regain their seats in the upcoming state elections.
During the ceremony, 14 PPMs took their oath before the Chief Minister, including Abd Rashid Saidin (UPPM HQ), Muhammad Tasan (Bengkoka), Sharif Kadah Sharif Osman (Bandau), Saikom Watis (Kadamaian), and Rosita Ganggang (Inanam). Others who took the oath included Alex Tan Liang Boon (Likas), Lee Li Mei (Api-Api), Chin Thau Kwong (Luyang), Shamsur Zulkifli (Petagas), Cyril Gerald Liew (Kapayan), Ana Maria Bernadus (Limbahau), Max Million Lee Yun Vui (Tanjung Papat), Juslee Arpaih (Sukau), and Mohamad Latip Katik (Kunak).
The ceremony was attended by Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew, State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, Assistant Ministers to the Chief Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan and Datuk Abidin Madingkir, and Community Development Leader Unit director Datuk Awang Kadin Tang.
