PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the current prices of essential items like chicken, eggs, and cooking oil remain low and stable compared to the previous administration. Despite this, the Prime Minister noted that some quarters continue to criticize the Madani government for not doing enough to alleviate the cost of living for the people.

Anwar highlighted the significant decrease in prices, stating that in 2021 and 2022, the price of chicken was RM13 per kg, but now it has dropped to RM9 to RM9.50 per kg. Additionally, during the previous administration, 5kg of cooking oil was priced at RM45 to RM50, whereas now it is around RM27. The availability of chicken eggs has also improved from a previously limited supply to a more stable situation.

In his address at the monthly assembly with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department on Monday (April 1), Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, emphasized the positive changes in the prices of essential items. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, and Public Service Department director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
