On Friday (Sept 22), a block at SK Permatang Tok Kandu primary school in Permatang Pauh caught fire. The fire resulted in the destruction of the third floor, where five classrooms were razed. Upon receiving information about the fire at 6pm, the State Fire and Rescue Department promptly dispatched firemen to the scene. In their statement, the department’s spokesman stated, “Upon arrival, we observed that the third floor of one of the school blocks was engulfed in flames. Firemen from Perai fire station were deployed to control the situation.” Out of the five classrooms, three were completely destroyed while two endured 40% damage. By around 6.30pm, the fire was successfully contained without any reported casualties. Firemen from Jalan Perak, Bayan Baru, Penanti, Kepala Batas, and Bayan Baru fire stations also assisted in the operation. Images and videos of the incident rapidly circulated on social media. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
