A 47-year-old prisoner named Akhirin Jufri admitted to three instances of sexual assault on his cellmate in Melaka. The accused pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh before Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail on Dec 29. Based on two charge sheets, the accused forcefully sodomised a 22-year-old victim, with charges framed under Section 377C of the Penal Code. This section carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail and whipping if the accused is found guilty.
Additionally, the accused faced a third charge under Section 377CA of the Penal Code for inserting a finger into the victim’s anus. If convicted under this section, the accused could face up to 30 years imprisonment and whipping.
The offences were committed at the Sungai Udang Prison Complex at midnight on Nov 25. The court has set the sentencing date for Jan 10 of the following year.
