The KLANG Municipal Council (MPK) has set aside RM35mil to develop environmentally friendly and livable spaces.
The council’s president, Noraini Roslan, emphasized the need to create areas that are both environmentally and socially resilient to promote urban regeneration and placemaking.
“We aim to enhance the landscape and improve the overall quality of the area,” she stated.
The areas earmarked for improvement include the north Klang town centre, Kapar, Meru, Port Klang, Tanjung Harapan, south Klang town centre, and Bandar Bukit Raja.
“A budget of RM9.98mil has been allocated for the development of the north Klang town centre,” Noraini explained.
She also mentioned specific projects such as the renovation of Pasar Jawa and the alleys surrounding Jalan Pos Baru.
In Meru, RM5mil has been set aside for projects involving the upgrading of the recreational park, landscape plaza, buildings, food court, and fruit stalls,” she added during a public participation session for the preparation of Budget 2024 in Klang.
Other allocations include RM1mil for Kapar, RM5mil for Port Klang, RM2mil for Tanjung Harapan, RM5mil for south Klang, and RM7mil for Bandar Bukit Raja.
“Through MPK’s rejuvenation project, we aim to revitalize various areas of Klang as it approaches city status,” Noraini stated.
The budget session was attended by residents, stakeholders from the health and education sectors, as well as developers.
In July, Nga Kor Ming, the Minister of Local Government Development, announced during a visit to Klang that the town would be recognized as Malaysia’s 20th city, making it the fourth city in Selangor alongside Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Subang Jaya.
Klang, which is 133 years old and has a population of 500,000, annually generates over RM100mil through assessment collection and other sustainable sources.
