PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has more to offer its trading partner China compared with other Asean countries, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said that China, which is the largest trading partner to the majority of Asean countries, is facilitating trade relations with these nations to ensure smooth and sustainable collaboration.
Our government must fully utilise these privileges to promote trade between Malaysia and China as a way to grow our economy and increase our income, he said.
“Compared with many other Asean countries, Malaysia enjoys great advantages in terms of language, culture and basic infrastructure,” he said in his Facebook post on Thursday (Aug 10).
Dr Wee had attended the China-Asean cross-border supply chain innovation and development forum as the guest of honour after being invited by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangxi Committee.
Its vice-chairman Zhang Shaogang and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhang Autonomous Region vice-governor Sui Guohua had also delivered their speeches at the event.
“The forum gathered experts and academics from the logistics and transport industries, cross-border trade, customs, financial institutions and port autonomous regions to discuss the challenges and future opportunities.
“In this three-hour forum, we learned much about the cross-border trade between China and countries throughout the world, and how efforts are made to reduce barriers,” he said.
