The relevant ministries have received a proposal to construct an international airport in Seri Iskandar, according to Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, the Perak Mentri Besar. The state government is optimistic that the request will be approved in order to further develop the state. Saarani stated, “We submitted the proposals to the Finance and Transport ministries. While approval is subject to the Transport Ministry, it all comes down to the budget.” He made these comments to reporters after attending the Tanya Cikgu Saarani programme at UiTM Seri Iskandar on October 9.
In July, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, the chairman of the state infrastructure, energy, water, and public transport committee, announced that a 1,618-hectare plot of land near Felcra Nasaruddin had been identified for the project. Mohammad Nizar disclosed that the land is partially owned by Felcra, State Secretary Incorporated, and the state government.
Saarani attributed the decision to build the airport to high demand. He explained, “In line with the state’s Lumut Maritime Industrial City project, we saw the demand to set up a cargo terminal. During our meeting with the Transport Ministry, we have expressed our intention to set up the terminal.”
