KUALA LUMPUR: Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (Proton), the national car maker, has indicated its plan to launch new models of new energy vehicles (NEV) in the near future. Chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong mentioned during the company’s Chinese New Year Prosperity Dinner that the first model will be launched soon, followed by a second one in six to eight months, which will include other non-NEV models as well.
L i expressed the company’s intention to expand its powertrain portfolio with the introduction of a new-generation engine, aiming to gain a more competitive advantage in the market. He also outlined Proton’s goal to achieve the number one ranking in after-sales service.
In 2023, Proton achieved its fifth consecutive year of sales growth, with a total of 154,611 units sold, marking its strongest sales performance since 2012. This represents a 9.3% increase compared to the 141,432 units sold in 2022. – Bernama
