Quarterly updates must be provided by the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) developer to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) in order to ensure progress on the project, which has faced numerous delays. MPAJ president Dr Ani Ahmad stated that EKVE Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd, is required to give a status update every three months during the council’s infrastructure committee meeting. “We met the developer in August and provided them with several instructions, including the need for updates,” she said after chairing the monthly full board meeting yesterday. Ani also mentioned that Section One of the EKVE, from Bandar Sungai Long to Ampang, is set to be completed on February 28, 2024. The elevated U-turn at Ukay Perdana, which has raised concerns, is expected to be completed on December 6, 2024, with some redesign.

The EKVE is part of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road and will be a toll dual-carriageway between Bandar Sungai Long and Ukay Perdana. The project was initially scheduled for completion in 2019 but faced delays due to legal issues and logistical challenges. EKVE proposed an amended design for the elevated U-turn, but this prompted residents associations to raise objections. Bukit Antarabangsa, Beverly Heights, and Taman Sering Ukay Residents Associations sent protest letters to the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), requesting an evaluation of the new design and assurance that it complied with safety standards. The residents expressed concerns that the current design is too sharp and narrow for vehicles, posing a risk of accidents for motorists residing in Ukay Perdana and Bukit Antarabangsa.

Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail recently called for a government investigation into the prolonged delays in the construction of EKVE. During a Dewan Rakyat sitting on September 14, Rodziah also proposed raising the project-related issues in a special committee if the stakeholders fail to conduct an investigation.
