PUCHONG: A resident on Jalan Wawasan here, was shocked to discover a large crater in front of his house after a landslide in the area.

Abd Rahim Md Ali, 72, described the incident as a thunderous sound, similar to the snapping of a tree, prompting him and his family to quickly run outdoors.

Upon opening the front door, they were shocked to see the front of the house had turned into a crater, so they fled through the back door.

Additionally, the road in front of Abd Rahim’s house had collapsed, with a Honda City car parked by the roadside falling into the crater as well, as reported at the scene on Sunday (Dec 17).

Prior to the incident, Abd Rahim and his family were preparing to perform the Maghrib prayer when they heard their neighbors screaming.

“A few minutes later, the fire department personnel and the police arrived and asked us to vacate the house for safety reasons,” he said, adding that he and his family were now at a temporary relief center set up at the Subang Jaya City Council multipurpose hall.

Tung Ei Lee, 42, another resident in the area, stated that this was the first time such an incident had occurred in decades during her time living there.

She recounted being alerted by a neighbor about the landslide while she was tidying the house.

Tung quickly gathered important documents and left the house, seeking refuge at her siblings’ home.

As a result of the landslide that occurred on Saturday (Dec 17), 29 occupants of nine terraced houses in Taman Wawasan Puchong were instructed to evacuate due to safety concerns.

“We may offer additional aid next week as the repair work is expected to take two weeks.

“We have allocated adequate funds to support their temporary accommodation in a hotel,” he said. – Bernama
