The Election Commission (EC) anticipates a voter turnout of more than 70% for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections on September 9th, according to EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh. He revealed that this projection is based on the observation of low voter turnout during the August 12th state elections. In light of this, he urged voters to participate in the election and reminded them to bring their MyKad identification cards to enable a smooth voting process. Ghani Salleh also expressed hope that voters would adhere to the advisory time provided by the EC. The chairman made these remarks while inspecting the final preparations for the Pulai by-election at Menara MBJB on September 8th.
The Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections were called following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was the incumbent representative and also served as the domestic trade and cost of living minister, on July 23rd. In Pulai, a total of 166,653 voters are registered, while in Simpang Jeram, there are 40,379 registered voters. Both constituencies will witness a three-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional, and an independent candidate.
