JOHOR BARU: The state of Johor will issue a travel time advisory to assist voters from Singapore who are returning to vote in the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections on Saturday, September 9.

According to Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, the chairman of the state works, transportation and infrastructure committee, there will not be any special lanes at the Causeway or Second Link on polling day. The decision was made to prevent non-voters from taking advantage of these lanes at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ).

Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh reassured that all counters at BSI and KSAB will be operational before and during polling day to facilitate the smooth flow of voters. The issuance of the travel time advisory is aimed at avoiding congestion at the Causeway and Second Link, as Saturday is typically a busy day with many Singaporeans crossing over into Malaysia for the weekend.

The Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats became vacant following the death of their elected representative, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, the domestic trade and cost of living minister, on July 23.

Campaigning for the by-elections will end at 11.59pm on Friday, September 8.
