JOHOR BARU: Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has dismissed Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s claims of gerrymandering as last-minute propaganda designed to incite fear and manipulate voters. Mohamad, the Barisan Nasional deputy chairman, accused Perikatan of targeting Umno supporters and attempting to sway them to either vote for their candidate in the by-elections or to not vote at all.
When asked to comment on Muhyiddin’s statement about making constitutional amendments, including the redelineation of electoral constituencies, Mohamad stated that he had not heard or received any such proposals from any political parties in the coalition. He clarified that any suggestions would be discussed within the council before making any decisions, and if the coalition reject an idea, it will be considered invalid.
Mohamad emphasized that Umno represents not only the Malay community, but also the Bumiputera and Islam. He stated that they would not support any suggestions that could negatively impact the position of these three groups.
Meanwhile, Pulai parliamentary candidate Suhaizan Kayat, accompanied by Mohamad at a breakfast programme, expressed shock and disappointment at Muhyiddin’s negative remarks about him. Suhaizan, who is much younger than Muhyiddin, expressed his respect for the former leader but suggested that Muhyiddin may have misunderstood him.
Earlier, Muhyiddin had made a comment during a Perikatan ceramah at Taman Kempas, calling it “haram” or sinful to vote for Suhaizan. This statement drew laughter from the audience.
