MUAR: Teacher Muhammad Arif Jamali narrowly avoided missing his chance to vote in the Simpang Jeram by-election. Muhammad Arif, 29, had attended a wedding in Kuala Lumpur and arrived at the SK Simpang Jeram polling station just minutes before closing time. Despite the challenges, he made it in time. Arif was the last voter at the polling station.
Another individual who almost missed out on voting was lorry driver Abdul Fatah Abdul Rahman, 35, who hurriedly returned from Perak. Abdul Fatah was delivering furniture to Setiawan, Perak, and managed to reach Simpang Jeram by 5:30 pm. He left his lorry at home and quickly rode his motorcycle to the polling station. Abdul Fatah cast his vote at approximately 5:50 pm.
Mohd Saidi Salleh, a Pulai voter in Johor Baru, encountered a similar predicament due to wedding preparations in Batu Pahat. Just one minute away from missing his chance to vote in the Pulai by-election, Salleh rushed to the SK Seri Melati polling center after experiencing heavy traffic along Jalan Skudai. Thankfully, he arrived at 5:59 pm and was permitted to enter. Salleh expressed immense relief after submitting his ballot, as he was the last voter at the polling center which closes at 6 pm.
Despite his efforts, Chan Wei Jie, 28, was unable to vote. He arrived at the polling station at 5:59 pm, but by the time he reached the registration booth, it was too late. As a technician who had been working earlier, Wei Jie expressed disappointment and vowed to arrive earlier in the future.
