In the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections, a total of 61 polling centres with 362 streams opened simultaneously at 8am on Saturday, September 9. Of these, 47 polling centres are located in the Pulai constituency and 14 in the Simpang Jeram constituency. The polling centres are scheduled to close at 6pm.
According to the latest data released by the Election Commission, there are 205,810 registered voters who will be casting their ballots today, with 165,509 voters in Pulai and 40,301 in Simpang Jeram. These voters will be selecting new representatives to replace the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who passed away on July 23.
On September 5, a total of 831 police officers and personnel participated as early voters in the Pulai by-election, resulting in a 90 percent turnout. However, there was no early voting for the Simpang Jeram by-election.
Both by-elections are contested by candidates from Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional, and independent candidates. In the Pulai constituency, Pakatan candidate Suhaizan Kaiat is up against Zulkifli Jaafar from Perikatan and independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi. In Simpang Jeram, Pakatan’s Nazri Abdul Rahman is competing against Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya from Perikatan and independent candidate S. Jeganathan. – Bernama
