JOHOR BARU: Pakatan Harapan will reveal its candidates for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections on Wednesday (August 23), according to Aminolhuda Hassan.
The chairman of the Johor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) stated that the party president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and the Mentri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, will make the announcement on that day.
“The announcement will take place at the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub’s Simpang Jeram service centre,” he added.
Aminolhuda made these remarks after attending a closed-door meeting with Johor Umno chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, at the state Umno headquarters on Friday (Aug 18).
When asked about the candidates, the Sri Gading MP added that the two candidates for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections had already been endorsed by the central leadership of Pakatan.
“We have already received approval from our party leadership. There will be two candidates, who we will announce for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections.
“The two candidates are Johor-born, highly educated and male,” he said, adding that before the announcement, they would hold a tahlil ceremony for Salahuddin.
The Nomination Day for the Simpang Jeram state seat and Pulai parliamentary by-elections is set for Aug 26.
Polling will take place on Sept 9, and early voting is scheduled for Sept 5.
Salahuddin, who was the elected representative for both seats, passed away on July 23 due to a brain hemorrhage. He was 61 years old.
Salahuddin served as the Amanah deputy president and had previously held the position of Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.
