PUTRAJAYA: The National Day celebration will once again be held in Putrajaya, marking the fifth time in the past two decades that the federal administrative centre has hosted this event. Putrajaya previously organized the national-level celebrations in 2003, 2005, 2018, and 2019. Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, as the chairman of the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2023 Main Committee, announced in July that this year’s celebration on August 31 will be as grand as previous years. The event holds extra significance as it is the first National Day involving the Unity Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The theme of HKHM 2023 is ‘Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan,’ which represents the collective commitment of the leaders and the people to build a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation. The Malaysia Madani concept, introduced by Anwar, will be showcased in various aspects of the celebration, including song and dance performances, acrobatic displays by security forces, and a parade of contingents.
The Malaysia Madani framework encompasses the core values of Sustainability, Prosperity, Innovation, Respect, Trust, and Compassion, which will drive efforts to restore Malaysia’s stature and glory on the world stage.
In 2003, when Putrajaya hosted the National Day celebration for the first time, the theme ‘Keranamu Malaysia’ was adopted. It was also repeated in 2005. The celebration involved approximately 23,000 participants, 63 contingents, 22 brass bands, 18 floats, 20 aircraft, and 312 vehicles.
Thirteen years later, Putrajaya became the host city again in 2018 under the theme ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku,’ marking the first National Day celebration under the then Pakatan Harapan government. The following year, the event was held in Putrajaya once more, with the theme ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku: Malaysia Bersih,’ reflecting the aspiration to create a clean, efficient, and trustworthy country.
The 2019 celebration based on the theme ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku: Malaysia Bersih’ featured an analogy between the nature of termites and the detrimental effects of corruption, emphasizing the abhorrence of such crimes by the people of Malaysia. – Bernama
