KUALA LUMPUR: The Queen of Malaysia, Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, expressed her joy at being reunited with a special child, Tay Xiu Jin, whom she first met eight years ago. The unexpected second meeting with Tay, now 24 years old, occurred while Her Majesty was out shopping for Hari Raya sweets in Johor Baru ahead of the Aidilfitri celebrations.
“I was truly touched and happy when she (Tay) still remembered me. It was a heartwarming reunion,” said the Queen. She also highlighted the importance of unity between races and respect for all members of society, as emphasized by her husband, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia.
Sharing her sentiments via the Royal Press Office (RPO), Raja Zarith Sofiah stated, “Let’s not forget these special people.” Her initial encounter with Tay took place on Jan 24, 2016, during an event organized by the Johor Baru Kiwanis Club, where Tay was just 16 years old. The Queen, as the Sultanah of Johor at that time, hosted 350 club members at a theme park in Johor Baru in conjunction with a children’s celebration.
The message from the RPO emphasized that the Queen has always had a close connection with special children and places great importance on their welfare. Her Majesty regularly visits and spends time with special children in Johor to show her support and care for them.
