JOHOR BARU: Continuous cooperation between the Malaysian and Singaporean governments has led to a significant reduction in traffic congestion at the Causeway and Second Link, cutting travel time by at least two hours, according to Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Mentri Besar of Johor attributed this achievement to the consistent engagements and discussions between government agencies in both countries, aimed at resolving the longstanding traffic issues faced by approximately 450,000 daily users at the two border crossings.
“Every day, around 300,000 commuters have to wake up at 4am to commute to Singapore for work, passing through the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex. I am grateful that we have been able to effectively manage and disperse the traffic,” said Onn Hafiz during a speech at an affordable housing project in Tanjung Senibong. He added, “With the continuous cooperation from all parties involved, I am confident that we can further reduce traffic congestion by at least another hour by the end of the year.”
Last month, Onn Hafiz had announced that all issues affecting the CIQs at BSI and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Iskandar Puteri were expected to be resolved by the end of September. The state government is actively dedicated to enhancing Johor’s connectivity and improving services at the two CIQ complexes.
Notably, the Johor-Singapore Causeway is currently one of the busiest border crossings globally.
