PUTRAJAYA: The Economy Minister, Rafizi Ramli, announced that a progressive salary policy or model will be presented to the National Economic Action Council (NEAC) for approval on August 7. Once approved, the policy will be implemented. Rafizi stated that several main thrusts of the policy will be announced following its approval, and discussions between involved ministries have already been completed.
Rafizi expressed confidence that employers will also be happy with the approved progressive salary model, as both employees and employers will benefit from it. He made these remarks during the announcement of the 2022 Household Income and Expenditure Survey Report on July 28.
Initially, the suggestions for the progressive salary policy included presenting a White Paper on salary status in Parliament in September, as well as initiating engagement sessions and discussions between employers and employees. Rafizi also assured that the concerns of employers regarding higher business operating costs due to the policy can be addressed and overcome by the government.
Rafizi had previously mentioned that the progressive salary policy would be developed in collaboration with the Economy Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, and the Human Resources Ministry. This policy would mark a transition from the minimum wage model to phased salary increments that align with the growth of the national economy. – Bernama
