KUALA LUMPUR: Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, who recently underwent a heart stent procedure, has advised lawmakers to prioritize heart screenings. He emphasized that heart-related risks are not limited to ministers but are also influenced by lifestyle and high cholesterol levels.
During the minister’s reply on the Budget 2024 on Monday (Oct 30), Rafizi stated, “It is a good reminder, especially for men. Please go for heart screening because the risk is not only for ministers. It’s due to lifestyle and high cholesterol.”
Highlighting his own personal experience, Rafizi mentioned, “I have had a record of high cholesterol for the last 20 years and eventually of course it led to some problems with the heart.”
Rafizi’s comments followed a statement from Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang), who expressed gratitude for Rafizi’s recovery and advised all Members of Parliament to prioritize their health.
Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa had previously confirmed on Oct 21 that Rafizi was in stable condition after experiencing a heart ailment. Following the incident, the Pandan MP was swiftly taken to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for immediate medical attention.
