KUALA LUMPUR: The Save Malaysia rally, which had been highly anticipated, concluded without any negative incidents. According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, although the rally did not comply with the provisions of the Peaceful Assembly Act, the police took all necessary steps to ensure its smooth running. He mentioned that the rally started at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru around 1.15pm and ended near Sogo Kuala Lumpur around 3.30pm. Initial investigations revealed that 16 individuals gave speeches during the rally. Furthermore, the organizers also lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters during the event.

Comm Datuk Allaudeen explained that the police, as enforcers of the law, simply adhered to the regulations stated in the Peaceful Assembly Act. He emphasized that according to Section 9 of the Act, organizers are required to submit a notice to the police using a form found in the Fourth Schedule under Section 10. The form must include the organizer’s name and must be accompanied by written approval from the premises owner. Additionally, the police must also consult with property owners in the area before the event takes place given their responsibility in maintaining law and order.

The Kuala Lumpur police chief stated that the organizers were aware that compliance with the Act necessitates the completion of the required fom, rather than submission of a mere letter. In light of the rally’s non-compliance, appropriate action will be considered. Comm Datuk Allaudeen requested time to review the report submitted by the organizers before deciding on the next steps to be taken.

He added that the police have received 22 police reports concerning the event and after conducting checks, it was determined that traffic remained under control throughout the rally.
