REMBAU: Perikatan Nasional’s Rantau candidate for the state polls believes it is crucial to change the perception that the coalition is exclusively for Malays.

Rozmal Malakan emphasized the need to counter this negative perception by personally engaging with the people. He acknowledged that the failure to connect directly with the community led some to reject the coalition in the past.

“Perhaps for those who did not accept us in the past, it was because we did not go down to the ground to communicate directly. We were portrayed as the bogeyman, and the Indians and Chinese could not accept us,” said Rozmal.

He further emphasized the need to focus on all voters, rather than solely prioritizing Malay voters. To achieve this, he urged other Perikatan candidates to actively meet and engage with the people.

“I hope the other candidates from Perikatan will go out to meet the people. They are waiting,” he expressed during a meeting at Perikatan’s Rantau operations room.

Rozmal highlighted the importance of addressing bread and butter issues, which are the main concerns for the people. He recognized that although the infrastructure in Rantau is in place, there has been a lack of attention to minute details.

“To some, it might be small matters, like trash collection or road maintenance. But to those staying here, it is important to them,” he explained.

Furthermore, Rozmal identified a communication gap between the state and the people regarding delays in certain infrastructure projects. He emphasized the need for transparency in providing the real reasons behind these delays.

“You have to give the real reasons because the people want to know. Was it due to there being no budget or if prices have increased,” Rozmal stated.

Regarding his opponent, Barisan National’s Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Rozmal acknowledged the challenging fight he is facing. However, he believes that the constituency would benefit from a candidate who is more actively present on the ground.

“To me, going to the ground is the most important. It is different when you actually show your face,” Rozmal asserted.

Rozmal will be competing directly against the incumbent, Mohamad Hasan from Barisan National, for the N.27 Rantau seat. Mohamad Hasan currently serves as the Rembau Member of Parliament.
