IPOH: Starting February, tourists in Perak will have access to about 4,000 rebate vouchers to use on their trips. Perak tourism committee chairman Loh Sze Yee announced that the vouchers will cover rebates for hotel stays, tickets, and tour packages, with 65 tourism industry players participating in the initiative.

Loh explained that there are three categories for the vouchers, including tourism products, tour agencies, and hoteliers. He also noted that operators will apply for the rebates for their tourists on a first-come, first-served basis.

Furthermore, the total cost for the vouchers is approximately RM350,000, and the initiative is set to run until January of the following year. These vouchers are intended to act as incentives to boost the tourism industry, aligning with Visit Perak Year 2024.

Loh also mentioned that a similar initiative was implemented in 2020 to support industry players in attracting tourists during the Covid-19 pandemic. The initial distribution will begin with 4,000 vouchers, and the response will determine whether or not the initiative continues.

Nurmalis Musa, the chief executive officer of Tourism Perak Management Bhd, explained that tourists can receive a RM150 rebate by spending a minimum of RM500 in a single receipt on a tour package and staying for three days and two nights. On the other hand, tourists staying at participating hotels for at least one night can obtain a RM70 discount.

As for tourism products such as Kellie’s Castle or Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No 5, families can save RM30 on ticket purchases. Additional information on all participating operators will be available on the Tourism Perak website starting next month.
