MELAKA: A woman who lost her husband 10 months ago now has to deal with the loss of two of her children, who were killed in an accident on the way to visit their father’s grave.

“I’m not strong, it’s only been 10 months since their father passed away, and now I’ve lost two children,” single mother Norizan Ujak told Sinar Harian.

Her children were killed in an accident on Jalan Lebuh SPA near Hang Jebat Stadium, Krubong, here on Monday (Sept 23).

During the 6.15pm incident, her eldest son Muhammad Amirul Hazlin, 18, and youngest daughter Nur Afiqa Sofea Hazlin, five, passed away while receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka.

Norizan, who witnessed the accident, said she could only scream “Oh Allah, my children!” when she saw her son’s motorcycle collide with a dumpster by the roadside, causing the victims to be thrown off.

The 40-year-old said she was following her children on another motorcycle.

“We were on our way to the Bertam Ulu Islamic Cemetery to visit the grave of my late husband, who passed away due to complications from illnesses, including diabetes.

“We planned to have a meal together after the visit, but I never expected it to end in tragedy,” the mother of three told reporters at the hospital on Monday night.

Norizan said she could only watch in horror as her children could not avoid the dumpster, which was on the emergency lane shoulder, because of a lorry in the next lane.

“There wasn’t a single worker directing traffic to ensure the safety of road users,” she claimed, adding there were also no safety cones placed around the dumpster.
