KEPALA BATAS: Datuk Seri Reezal Merican is poised to carry on the legacy of former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the Bertam constituency, according to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The president of MCA expressed his confidence in Reezal, stating that he has a proven track record and is an asset to the local community.
“Being a local, he fully understands the needs of the people here,” said Dr Wee during his speech at Barisan’s Pematang Sindok, Kepala Batas operation centre on Wednesday (Aug 2) night.
Dr Wee highlighted Reezal’s experience as a former Cabinet colleague and praised his ability to promptly address the concerns of the people.
Reezal, who is also a member of Umno supreme council, is facing off against Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq of Perikatan Nasional for the Bertam seat in Penang.
This will mark Reezal’s first state seat contest after failing to retain his Kepala Batas parliamentary seat in the previous general election.
The Bertam state seat, which is part of the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat, was previously held by Abdullah and has been a stronghold for Barisan for 50 years.
