Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has cautioned the public, particularly Muslims, against becoming overly obsessed with any individual, urging them instead to always seek a balanced perspective based on knowledge and facts.

He also advised all parties to consult the State Islamic Religious Departments (JAIN) when dealing with matters related to the qualifications of religious speakers to ensure that their teachings are in line with Islamic principles.

“Fanaticism in any form is perilous to both the individual and society at large.

“It makes individuals susceptible to manipulation by certain individuals or groups,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 22).

Mohd Na’im mentioned that the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) is monitoring the developments reported by a local newspaper regarding the lineage of the Prophet.

Mohd Na’im also stated that the Islamic Development Department Malaysia (Jakim) would work closely with Islamic religious authorities, particularly JAIN, and the Royal Malaysia Police to investigate the revelations made by the newspaper.

“The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) will not tolerate any attempts to exploit religion for personal or group interests,” he emphasized.

On Wednesday (Feb 21), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the authorities would continue monitoring an Algerian man claiming to be a descendant of Prophet Muhammad and who has given religious talks in the country.

He added that the Home Ministry would collaborate with state authorities to take action against the man, identified as Mawla Muhammad Amin al-Idrisi, if he violates any laws. – Bernama
