KUALA LUMPUR: Marang MP Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has issued a challenge to a government backbencher to file a police report over his statements suggesting the possibility of a change in the Federal Government.
“According to Parliamentary democracy, the government can still change.
“This can be achieved through a no-confidence vote, obtaining statutory declarations from MPs, or dissolving the Parliament and holding another general election.
“There is nothing wrong with it,” he stated in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Sept 13).
In response to a question by RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) on whether it was “haram” for Perikatan Nasional to attempt to topple the current unity government, Abdul Hadi provided this explanation.
“If my statement is considered seditious, then go ahead and lodge another police report against me,” he challenged Rayer.
Prior to this, the PAS president expressed his readiness to face imprisonment during his speech in the lower house.
“In Islam, there are two courts – the present and the afterlife. Those with faith are willing to be punished in this world.
“As for myself, where multiple police reports have been filed against me, I have received professional treatment from the police.
“I have been summoned to Bukit Aman, Sentul, and officers have also come to my office.
“I am willing to face penalties, whether it be imprisonment or fines,” he declared.
At present, Abdul Hadi is under investigation by the police for his remarks during the Ceramah Perdana Perikatan Nasional in Bakri, Muar on Aug 26, in which he allegedly questioned the authority of the Pardons Board.
The police are conducting investigations under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the misuse of network facilities.
