PETALING JAYA: A rescue operation saved 10 crew members from a sinking boat 2.1 nautical west of Tanjung Rhu, the Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency says.

Selangor MMEA director Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, in a statement on Monday (July 8) said that the rescue was conducted at 3.35am on Monday after the crew members faced a leak that could not be rectified.

The boat, MV KUM JIN, had reportedly suffered a leak at the front side of the left ballast tank.

“BOT PERKASA 36 was mobilised to the scene despite the bad weather. At the scene, the MV KUM JIN was found to not be in a stable condition and all crew members and captain were getting into the lifeboats.

“The MMEA helped all onboard BOT PERKASA 36 before bringing them to the marine police jetty in Pulau Indah for medical checks and further action.

“Document checks showed that the captain is a 53-year-old Indonesian man. The rest of the crew were also from Indonesia and Myanmar, aged between 19 and 50 years old. All had valid travel documents,” he said.
