PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the chair of the Central Disaster Management Committee, has urged residents in flood-prone areas to take precautions and follow the instructions of authorities to minimize the impact of the disaster on their lives and properties. This statement came after heavy rainfall in the past few days has caused flooding in several low-lying areas and water levels in major rivers are rising. As of noon on Monday, six districts in Perak, Selangor, and Pahang have been affected by floods, with 881 victims from 237 families relocated to 12 temporary relief centers.
The Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that three rivers, namely Sungai Pontian Besar Kulai in Kampung Sri Paya, Johor Bahru; Sungai Perak in Changkat Jong; and Sungai Langat in Bangi Lama, have reached dangerous levels. MetMalaysia has also issued a significant weather forecast for the country from Monday to Wednesday, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds in rural and western regions of the peninsula, northern Sarawak, and western Sabah during the late afternoon and evening.
Ahmad Zahid emphasized the importance of staying updated with the latest information from reliable sources for those residing in flood-prone areas.
