On Wednesday (July 26), a restaurateur in Melaka pleaded not guilty to a charge of non-physical sexual abuse after allegedly making a lewd gesture to a teenager. Ismadi Ismail, 48, entered his plea before Sessions judge Elesabet Paya Wan. The accused is claimed to have touched his private parts in the presence of a 16-year-old girl, who was working for him. The incident is said to have taken place on June 14 at 6:45 PM in Taman Jasin Heights, Jasin district.
The charge against Ismadi Ismail was framed under Section 15(a)(i) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. If convicted, he could face a maximum prison sentence of 10 years or a fine not exceeding RM20,000, or both.
DPP Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim represented the prosecution while the accused was defended by Chua Yong Yi.
Bail was granted in the amount of RM15,000, and a mention date for the case has been set for September 12.
