Three seasoned hoteliers in Melaka have been reunited at a hotel after being forced to go their separate ways due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Jason R. Bak, the general manager of Ames Hotel, along with Nurashiken Zainal Abidin, the executive assistant manager, and Carol Fok, the director of catering and events, are once again colleagues at the same workplace.

When asked about their reunion, Bak expressed his delight, stating, “We are so delighted to be colleagues again, like true friends.” He also shared that he had always hoped for the opportunity to work with Nurashiken and Fok again, and that he cherished the time they spent together.

Reflecting on the impact of Covid-19 on the local hospitality industry, Bak emphasized the importance of valuing the people around us, especially working colleagues. Despite the challenges faced, Bak still believes that it is essential to appreciate and cherish the bonds formed with colleagues.

Bak praised Nurashiken and Fok, describing them as true hoteliers who always prioritize the well-being of their guests. He mentioned that their bond grew stronger during peak seasons, and they considered themselves as a family.

Nurashiken and Fok have a longstanding working relationship dating back to the early 1990s, while Bak joined them in 2013 at their previous workplace. However, they were forced to find employment at different hotels when their former establishment ceased operations during the height of the pandemic.

Nurashiken was the first to join Ames Hotel, followed by Fok. Bak was later appointed as the general manager in June of this year. Nurashiken described their friendship as irreplaceable and special, emphasizing the support they have provided for each other throughout their careers.
