PORT DICKSON: The Customs Department is offering a reward of 10% of the value of the seizure to anyone who provides accurate information on customs duties evasion and tax evasion, as well as the individuals involved.
Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan stated that the seized goods include cigarettes, liquor, and vehicles.
He further mentioned that the informant’s identity will be kept confidential.
“If the value of the seizure is RM1mil, the informant will receive 10% of that amount, which is RM100,000,” he explained.
“We have provisions for informants, and the evaluation will be based on different categories,” he added.
“We encourage more people to contact Customs if they notice anything suspicious. Informants are considered Category A, allowing Customs officials to swiftly arrest the culprits and confiscate the goods. This category also includes drug-related cases,” he stated.
This statement was made during his visit to officiate the Negri Sembilan Customs Community Service 2023 program. State Director Mohammad Hafiz Ishak was also present during the event held on Wednesday (July 19).
He emphasized that information is crucial in eradicating harmful practices that affect the people and the country. Customs has been providing rewards for a long time without making it publicly known.
“There is still a significant amount of illegal activities being conducted. I urge everyone to step forward and contact Customs in their respective areas. However, it is important not to provide false information,” he urged.
He also mentioned that Customs has a duty not only to collect taxes and revenue but also to maintain national order.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Hafiz highlighted in his speech that Negri Customs has collected over RM300mil in revenue as of June 31 this year. The target for the year is RM588mil.
“I have faith in the relentless efforts of the state Customs in improving their results. This will contribute to the government’s efforts in rehabilitating the national economy and assisting the people,” he expressed. – Bernama
