PERIKATAN Nasional’s Batu Tiga candidate Datuk Seri Rina Harun (pic) has promised to address the important bread and butter issues that concern the people during her campaign trail over the next six days.
“A significant portion of the Batu Tiga population consists of working-class individuals, and I can witness the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. While conducting walkabouts, I encounter people facing financial stress,” she expressed.
Rina Harun added that the people’s concerns, which were brought up during their brief encounters, revolved around the high cost of living, soaring food prices, unaffordable housing, access to quality healthcare, job opportunities for fresh graduates, and debts incurred in order to overcome life’s difficulties.
“Ordinary people are willing to share their stories of hardships and are longing for solutions. They are uncertain about the state government’s direction, economic prospects, and the prices of essential goods. Our manifesto outlines our plans to assist the working class,” she mentioned.
Rina Harun emphasized that providing economic assistance to the people is the second focal point of their manifesto.
“Improving the economic status of the people is a priority. Our coalition pledges to address the escalating cost of living and ensure the availability of affordable food,” she stated.
Among the proposals outlined in the manifesto is the introduction of the ‘Bantuan Prihatin Keluarga Selangor,’ with an annual allocation of RM312 million. This aid is expected to benefit 65,000 families by providing them with a monthly cash assistance of RM400.
Meanwhile, Rina Harun expressed that she has encountered several single mothers who are struggling to make ends meet due to the high prices of essential goods.
“I have observed a lack of policies or programs formulated by the Federal Government to uplift such vulnerable groups from their dire economic situations. As the former Women, Family and Community Development Minister, I urge the government to review and strengthen the initiatives I had previously introduced,” she urged.
Rina Harun further added that financial aid initiatives should be expanded to support the physically challenged and disabled individuals who are unable to work.
“I hope the government will prioritize the well-being of the physically challenged individuals and provide them with better opportunities in life,” she concluded.
In the state election for Batu Tiga, Datuk Seri Rina Harun (PN-Bersatu) will be competing in a three-cornered fight against Malaysian United Democratic Alliance Party (Muda) candidate Saiyidah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen and private university adjunct associate professor Danial Al-Rashid Haron (PH-Amanah).
