The Johor government is committed to ensuring that the increase in property tax assessment rates of five local councils will not be a burden for anyone. Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the Johor Mentri Besar, stated that the state government has received feedback regarding the upcoming increase in assessment rates, which will take effect on January 1, 2024. The five local councils affected are Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG), Kluang Municipal Council (MPK), and Pengerang Municipal Council (MPP).
“The assessment tax in Johor has not been increased since 2013,” said Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. He further mentioned that the state government will thoroughly examine and consider the most suitable methods and rates to ensure that no party is burdened, especially given the challenging economic conditions and the rising cost of living. The statement was shared on Facebook on Wednesday, October 25.
Last Saturday, October 21, the Johor housing and local government committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, explained that the increase in assessment rates is due to the rise in property values over the past decade.
