SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the Works Ministry has given approval for a RM135.8 million allocation to the Negri Sembilan government for remedial works this year. The funds are intended for slope, road, and bridge maintenance, as well as the upkeep of federal buildings in the state.
Nanta conveyed this information to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun during a courtesy call on Tuesday (Feb 20), where they also discussed road and related infrastructure issues in the state. This was Nanta’s first official meeting with Aminuddin since taking on the role of Works Minister.
He mentioned that they were also considering additional requests from the Mentri Besar, including the installation of smart traffic lights at several locations along federal routes in the state. Additionally, the Mentri Besar expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work of the concessionaire appointed to carry out road infrastructure maintenance in the state.
Nanta also stated his ministry’s commitment to carry out nine federal road development projects costing around RM1.2 billion in the state. Furthermore, his ministry, in collaboration with the Malaysian Highway Authority, was in talks with several agencies and companies regarding proposals to build three private highways in the state, including the Paroi-Senawang stretch.
During their discussion, Aminuddin shared the state government’s interest in being part of the MYJalan platform and application, which falls under the ministry’s purview. Nanta assured Aminuddin that MYJalan will indeed be implemented in Negri Sembilan.
The MYJalan app serves as a one-stop channel for the public to report road issues, accepting all types of complaints, even those related to roads not maintained by the Works Ministry.
