The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has informed the Dewan Rakyat that the RM1 billion allocated for border development in Sabah and Sarawak has already been disbursed. Anwar explained that this includes the funding for the construction of the Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine Complex (ICQS) as well as security posts in both states. The construction of the 17 projects, consisting of eight in Sabah worth RM82.2 million and nine in Sarawak worth RM88.2 million, has already commenced.

Anwar further added that although there were initial delays, the projects have since caught up in progress. He emphasized the need for Malaysia to expedite its border development in order to keep up with Indonesia, particularly its activities in Kalimantan. The RM1 billion allocated for 2023 has prompted the relevant ministries to fast-track the projects.

In response to Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan’s inquiry about the claims of incomplete disbursement of the RM1 billion allocation, Anwar provided clarification and acknowledged the concerns raised. He assured that the allocated funds have indeed been disbursed and emphasized the importance of expediting the projects to ensure the border development in Borneo is not left behind.
